Important fixtures for adapted bathrooms

For easy access bathrooms, and accessible bathroom facilities, there are a number of key considerations to be made. But what are the most important fixtures for adapted bathrooms? Well, here at RWM Plumbing and Gas, we are leading bathroom installation and design professionals. From traditional to contemporary bathrooms, we can install the right bathroom for any home. And this is our guide to everything you should know about adapted bathroom fixtures.

What are the most important fixtures for adapted bathrooms?

There are several important adaptations to common bathroom fixtures that can make all the difference to your accessible bathroom. These include:

  • The toilet height- a comfort height toilet is up to 5 inches taller than a standard toilet, and this means that for those with mobility issues and joint pain, this higher level toilet can be incredibly beneficial.
  • Shower step- For any shower enclosure it is important to include a small lip, to prevent water from leaking out of the shower. However, this can be lowered to a more comfortable height for those with mobility issues. You could also consider turning the whole space into a wet room, removing the need for a lip/step at all.
  • Sink height- similar to the toilet height, the sink should be at a height that is convenient for you. If you struggle bending down, a higher sink might be very beneficial. Or if you are a wheelchair user, a lowered sink would be more helpful.
